run out

(phrasal verb) To finish, use or sell all of something, so that there is nothing left.

I've run out of milk/money/ideas/patience.

"Do you have any milk?" "Sorry, I've run out."

The milk has run out.

My patience is beginning to run out.

Metaphor: The scuba diver who’s under water hoping his oxygen doesn’t run out before he can get to the surface.
